Nearly 130k Illegal Immigrants Apprehended On Southern Border In April

Nearly 130,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended on the southern border in April, marking a slight decline from the previous month.

The unofficial report from Border Patrol, first obtained by Breitbart News, recorded 129,000 illegal immigrant apprehensions across the southwest border last month, marking a decline of 8,000 from March.

The figure brings the total number of illegal immigrant apprehensions for the 2024 fiscal year, which began in October 2023, to almost 1.2 million. The year is currently projected to surpass last year’s total apprehensions figure of 2.046 million, which would make it the third year in a row under President Joe Biden that the figure surpassed 2 million yearly apprehensions.

The San Diego sector was the busiest area on the border and experienced 37,000 apprehensions last month, with the Tucson sector coming in second at 31,000 apprehensions, and the El Paso sector witnessing over 30,000 apprehensions. Texas’ Del Rio sector saw more than 10,000 illegal immigrant apprehensions during the month.

The new monthly figures come as the United States continues to face an unprecedented crisis on the southern border, with officials recording over 9.5 million nationwide encounters and 1.7 million estimated illegal immigrant gotaways under the Democratic incumbent, a striking increase from the 445,000 total reported gotaways for 2018, 2019, and 2020 under Trump.

Numerous polls have found that Biden is suffering among voters over his handling of the critical election year issue. One recent survey from ABC/Ipsos found that Americans trust former President Donald Trump to handle immigration more than they trust Biden by a full 17 point margin. Another survey found that just 36 percent of voters approve of the Democratic incumbent’s performance on immigration, making it his lowest issue-specific approval rating for four consecutive months.

Another poll revealed that only 20 percent of voters said that the United States currently has control over its own border, while surveys in Colorado and Massachusetts, two deep blue states, found that voters believe immigration is the biggest issue facing their states.

A slim majority of Americans have also expressed support for the mass deportation of illegal immigrants, a policy that Trump has pledged to enact if he is reelected to the presidency in November.
