Marriage counselor reveals the 12 questions all couples should be able to answer about each other six months into a relationship - so, how many can YOU get right about your other half?

A marriage counselor has revealed the 12 'basic' things all couples should know about each other six months into a relationship.

Therapist Jeff Guenther LPC, from Portland, Oregon, shared a video on TikTok highlighting the questions he thinks are important to discuss with a partner before committing to them.

He said knowing about how your partner defines success and how their family have affected their growth are 'important basics to build on'.

Other questions relate to what comforts your partner when they are sad and stressed and what 'lights them up inside.'

The video was liked more than 1.3 million times on the social media platform.

However, some people joked they did not know how to answer these questions about themselves, let alone their partners.

Jeff tried to reassure his viewers at the start of the video, saying: 'If you don't know these things, don't freak out, just ask each other. As a couple's counselor I feel these are important basics that you want to build on as you continue your relationship.

'If you and your partner can answer nine out of 12 correctly, you're doing great.'

He added your partner should also be able to answer these questions about you.

The first of the 12 questions is one of the easier ones, asking what makes your partner 'laugh and cry.'

Another fairly easy questions relates to what your partner is passionate about, while another ponders what makes them mad, and one, how they need to be comforted when they are stressed.

Jeff's questions, which he listed in the video, pictured, ranged from 'what makes your partner laugh and cry?' to 'how would they define success'

Some questions were more personal, such as how their family affect their growth, as well as whether they are spiritual, and if so, how it affects their decision-making.

Jeff said the list is not exhaustive and invited viewers to add their own questions that they think are important to know about a partner early on.

However, many of the therapist's followers joked they don't know the answers to these questions when it comes to themselves.

Others said the questions are not 'basic' but more advanced than they expected.

'This made me freak out... I don't know my own answers... How can someone know this about me? Is that why I'm single,' one asked.

Some people said the questions were more advanced than Jeff thinks, and others said not knowing these things did not keep them from enjoying a happy marriage

'What happened to easy things like "what's your favorite color?",' one wrote.

'He called them "basics",' one joked.

'What if your husband says "I dunno" to everything? We've been married seven years. He's silly and keeps me laughing. That's all I need,' one said.

'I thought this was going to be like, how many siblings do they have,' one joked.

'I struggle to even know this about myself,' one wrote.

'I've been with my partner for 3.5 years and I still can't figure out what she wants for dinner, can you help me,' another said.

Some joked they don't have the answers for these questions about themselves, while one said they believed the questions would be in the lines of 'how many siblings do thry have'
