Donald Trump Jr. Gets Washington Post Correction Over 'Let's Go Brandon' Chant

Donald Trump Jr. has been revelling in the Washington Post newspaper issuing a correction about chants the crowd were making during one of his speeches in Georgia.

Washington Post article that was published on October 23, entitled "Biden's critics hurl increasingly vulgar taunts," incorrectly said that the crowd was singing: "Let's go Brandon" instead of "F*** Joe Biden!" at a Trump Jr. speech in September.

At the rally, Trump Jr. took the stage after the crowd had been chanting "USA! USA!"

"There's a couple other chants I've been hearing going around," he said. "Have you heard the other one that's been going around?" The crowd then shouted of "F*** Joe Biden!"

A correction was issued at the bottom of the article. It read: "Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly said a crowd broke into a "Let's go Brandon" chant during a Donald Trump Jr. speech in Georgia. The crowd broke into a "F*** Joe Biden!" chant at that speech in September. The error, which was inserted by an editor, has been corrected."

"This is the greatest correction in the history of journalism! Thanks @washingtonpost," Trump Jr. tweeted on Sunday.

"Let's go Brandon!" is a popular meme and chant by Trump supporters and other Republicans

It originated from an interview with NASCAR racer Brandon Brown on October 3. The 28-year-old driver had just scored his first Xfinity Series win and, in the background, you can hear his fans shouting "F*** Joe Biden." The NBC Sports reporter Kelli Stavast noticed the chants and remarked that the supporters were shouting "Let's go Brandon." It's not clear whether Stavast did this knowingly or unknowingly — she has not publicly commented on the matter.

Since then, the phrase has become a euphemism for "F*** Joe Biden." A song called "Let's Go Brandon" — which combines footage of the original interview and a rapper wearing a Trumpian "Make Music Great Again" baseball cap — has now been viewed more than 3.27 million times on YouTube.

Trump's Save America PAC group has even started selling a $45 T-shirt with a picture of President Joe Biden with "Let's go Brandon" accompanying it.

The phrase has picked up traction, even on Capitol Hill. On October 21, Rep. Bill Posey, a Republican from Florida, ended his speech on the House floor with "Let's go Brandon!" Posey had been speaking against Biden's "Build Back Better bill."

"They want you to help put America back where you found it and leave it the hell alone," he said, adding the phrase and pumping his fist.

The Washington Post article interviewed former GOP strategist Mike Murphy, who said former President Donald Trump normalized "profanity" and "angry speech" in politics.

Biden's popularity has decreased over his handling of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, as well as the ongoing COVID pandemic.
