Female Athletes Slam Gavin Newsom Over California Trans Athlete Controversy

As the girls’ high school track and field championships approach, a trans athlete is set to compete in this year’s girls’ tournament.
The main controversy centers on AB Hernandez, a biological high school student at Jurupa Valley High School in Riverside County. Hernandez qualified for and competed in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Track & Field Championships in Clovis in the girls’ long jump, high jump, and triple jump.
Hernandez is seeded first in the upcoming tournament.
Last year, Hernandez won 1st place in high jump and triple jump and took 2nd place in the long jump.
Three-time Olympic women’s gold medalists Nancy Hogshead and Kaillie Humphries spoke to Fox News Digital, responding to a statement from a source within Newsom’s office on the issue that said, “The Governor has said discussions on this issue should be guided by fairness, dignity, and respect.”
“Governor Newsom seems to exclude girls from his own standard of ‘fairness, dignity and respect.’ It is impossible to include a male — however they identify — into girl’s sports and have a fair competition, respecting and dignifying the unique biology of females. Females aren’t weakened males; males and females are built from different molds, so different that it justifies formal, government-sanctioned sex segregation,” Hogshead told Fox News Digital.

The government never segregates racially and religiously, but we do segregate by sex because of biology, material reality. Girls and women rely on that formal sex segregation to have the possibility of equality in sport. Governor Newsom needs to include the girls competing in track in his own analysis. As a law professor, this is a big fail,” she continued.

“There is nothing fair about allowing boys to take opportunities from girls in sports. It’s just the left’s thinly veiled misogyny. Governor Newsom should be focusing on California hosting the Olympics which actually knows the difference between men and women and quit pushing his woke agenda which is out of the mainstream of the American public,” Humphries told Fox News Digital.
Women’s tennis great Martina Navratilova, who has consistently spoken out to protect women in sports, also reacted to the controversy and shared Hogshead and Humphries comments.
“Olympic gold medalists rip Newsom for California’s trans athlete situation ahead of protested track meet | OutKick-right on Nancy!!! We are just built different!!!”
Navratilova later added, “Cheating… which at the moment the rules allow. Thanks for nothing @GavinNewsom.”
As TGP readers know, President Donald Trump signed a landmark executive order back in 2025 which was supposed to ensure that biological men could not compete in women’s sports. But California and other blue states have decided to defy Trump’s order and continue to allow men to compete against women.
