REPORT: Sen. Tom Cotton Allegedly Working Behind the Scenes to Block Trump’s Pick, Elbridge Colby, From Getting Confirmed at the DoD

Senator Tom Cotton; Elbridge Colby

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) is reportedly working behind the scenes to obstruct the confirmation of Elbridge Colby to a key position in the Department of Defense.

Colby was nominated by President Donald Trump in December to serve as the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy alongside Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth.

“Elbridge “Bridge” Colby will serve as Under Secretary of Defense for Policy,” Trump wrote in his announcement last year.

“A highly respected advocate for our America First foreign and defense policy, Bridge will work closely with my outstanding Secretary of Defense Nominee, Pete Hegseth, to restore our Military power, and achieve my policy of PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH. Bridge served with distinction in the Pentagon in my First Term, leading the effort on my landmark 2018 Defense strategy. He graduated from Harvard College and Yale Law School, and will make an excellent addition to my team, who will, Make America Great Again!”

During Trump’s first term, Colby served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and Force Development.

However, the confirmation process has hit a snag with Senator Cotton’s alleged intervention. Charlie Kirk, founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, took to social media to voice his concerns about Cotton’s actions, which he views as a betrayal of Trump’s vision for the Department of Defense.

Kirk’s tweet accused Cotton of sabotaging Colby’s confirmation.

“The effort to undermine President Trump continues in the US Senate Sen. Tom Cotton is working behind the scenes to stop Trump’s pick, Elbridge Colby, from getting confirmed at DOD,” Kirk wrote.

“Colby is one of the most important pieces to stop the Bush/Cheney cabal at DOD. Why is Tom Cotton doing this?”

Conservatives, including Elon Musk, responded to this allegation against Sen. Cotton.

However, Ben Smith, Editor-in-Chief of Semafor reported that Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) is pushing back hard against suggestions that the United States could live with a nuclear-armed Iran, a stance reportedly implied by Elbridge Colby.

Sources close to Cotton confirm that he is allegedly voicing strong opposition to any policy that would accept Iran’s nuclear ambitions and is actively addressing his concerns with the White House.

“Senator Cotton disagrees, opposes Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, and is addressing his policy concerns with the White House,” a source close to Cotton says.
