Someone is giving pigeons cowboy hats, and it’s a howdy-doo mystery (13 Photos)

I’ve always known Las Vegas to be the land of excess and tacky costumes, but this… this is something else. Whether it’s because the rodeo is coming to town, or there’s a new cowboy-themed casino being announced with a stunning bird show, but, pigeons on the strip are wearing cowboy hats.

Yep, those are some rootin’-tootin’, poop-slingin’ birds that wearing some 0.25 gallon hats while doing their pigeon business.

And no one knows where they’re getting the hats.

The video and images were originally shared on the Facebook page of Bobby Lee, and subsequently retweeted by Las Vegas Locally’s Twitter page, and honestly, I’d definitely check out the OG video for some of the best commentary about the behatted birds.

According to an interview with Lee, he was driving when he saw red things on the pigeon’s heads. He stopped and started filming, when he realized they were miniature cowboy hats.

So far, it just looks like it’s only 2 birds with the hats, but no one’s sure how the hats are secured on there.

Hopefully it’s nothing too harmful to the birds, but based on the way they’re not falling off, odds are, it’s not going to end well for them.

At the moment, animal rescue workers are trying to track the birds down and safely secure them, so they can gently remove the hats without harming the birds.

As always, though, Twitter has some beautiful reactions to the sight of these birds.

I’d definitely be down to watching a pigeon rodeo. Maybe put some saddles on rats?
