Retailers, businesses continue to flee Portland due to rampant violence, theft and lawlessness

Just weeks after the last Walmart store closed up shop in Portland, Cracker Barrel decided to do the same thing.

Cracker Barrel had already closed some stores throughout the area when it announced, just like Walmart did, that all remaining stores will be shuttered in the coming days.

A company spokesperson cited the “pandemic,” referring to the Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19), as the impetus behind the closure of the final two remaining locations – one in Beaverton and the other in Tualatin.

The popular restaurant chain, which has a Southern country theme, did not make mention of the rampant crime that makes doing business in the Oregon city a no-go, though we suspect that this is part of why Cracker Barrel is fleeing as well.

We are also told that Cracker Barrel is closing its Bend location, which is located about a 3.5-hour drive east from Portland.

“We are saddened that we have been unable to overcome the impact the pandemic had on our business and have made the difficult decision to close the Beaverton, Tualatin and Bend locations,” the Cracker Barrel spokesperson said.

Last summer, Cracker Barrel also closed its restaurant on Hayden Island to the north of Portland, citing similar reasons.

“The decision to close a store is never one we take lightly, and our focus right now is on assisting our impacted employees during this transition,” the spokesperson added. “We extend our sincere thanks to our employees who worked so hard and to our guests.”

Is Portland dying due to rampant far-leftism?

Could it be that “covid” is really the only reason why Cracker Barrel is fleeing northwest Oregon? Or is there more to it than that?

In recent days, the following incidents have occurred in Portland that, quite frankly, are not all that common in most other American cities:

• An 82-year-old man died after he was brutally beaten in an unprovoked attack at a Portland bus stop.

• Following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, rioters smashed windows and vandalized several buildings in Portland in “protest” of the ruling.

• Last April, Antifa terrorists participated in the so-called “People’s Convoy,” which involved standing on an overpass and throwing paint-filled balloons and rocks onto vehicles along 205 North.

• One woman and five others were injured in a mass shooting incident involving Antifa, which was “protesting” police violence.

• Numerous other local businesses besides Walmart boarded up and vacated Portland because of escalating theft, vandalism, and violence throughout the city.

When questioned about all this, including Portland’s ever-growing homeless and vagrant population, Democrat Mayor Ted Wheeler appeared to laugh and scoff at a woman during a city council meeting. It is almost as if Wheeler supports all the chaos and breakdown of his city, or at least does not think it to be all that serious and worthy of addressing.

“Cracker Barrel is simply a middle-class eatery, and Portland has successfully expelled the middle class,” suggested one commenter about what he believes is happening to the city that anchors Oregon’s largest metropolitan area. “Hence no reason to expect a middle-class eatery to be able to survive.”

“Perhaps if they renamed themselves ‘Crack Barrel,’ they’d stand a better chance in Portland,” joked another, referencing Portland’s out-of-control drug problem.

Someone else wrote, that eventually Portland is going to have to start taxing its homeless population in order to make up for all the lost revenue from fleeing businesses, along with the exodus of normal people who are leaving the city in droves.

Numerous others questioned when corporate businesses are going to start admitting that the reason they are leaving cities like Portland is not because of “covid,” but rather because of all the crime and lawlessness.
