Senate Democrats Open Investigation Into Allegations by Fired US Attorney that Trump Pressured DOJ to Probe His Political Opponents

Joe Biden’s jackbooted thugs in the FBI raided Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, but the Senate Democrats are investigating whether Trump pressured his DOJ to investigate his political opponents.

The investigation was launched based on claims from former US Attorney Geoffrey Berman – a disgruntled political hack who is seeking revenge because he was fired by Trump in 2020.

Berman’s office was the lead in several high profile cases assembled by Robert Mueller and Andrew Weissmann.

President Trump fired Geoffrey Berman in June 2020 after the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York refused a request by then-Attorney General Bill Barr to resign.

Barr had offered Berman higher positions within the Justice Department but Berman declined and instead went public claiming he could not be removed from office until replaced by a Senate confirmed presidential nominee due to his appointment to the position by a federal court.

Berman is now claiming Trump’s Justice Department pressured his office to probe the former president’s political opponents.

Oh, and Berman is also selling a book so this is his PR campaign.

Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) sent US Attorney General Merrick Garland a letter Monday evening seeking information on reports of “political interference” by Trump and AG Barr.

“U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today sent a letter to Attorney General Garland seeking information on reports of political interference during the Trump presidency by then-Attorney General Barr and other Trump loyalists. In his letter, Durbin points to recent claims made by Geoffrey Berman, the former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), including that high-ranking Trump administration appointees pressured the SDNY U.S. Attorney’s Office to prosecute critics of the former president and protect the former president and his allies.” – Durbin’s office said in a press release this week.

“These reported claims indicate astonishing and unacceptable deviations from the Department’s mission to pursue impartial justice, which requires that its prosecutorial decisions be free from political influence,” Durbin wrote. “They also compound the already serious concerns raised by then-Attorney General Barr’s 2020 efforts to replace Mr. Berman with a Trump loyalist.”

Durbin continued, “If accurate, Mr. Berman’s claims indicate multiple instances of political interference in the Department’s investigative and prosecutorial decisions. The Senate Judiciary Committee will investigate these episodes.”

Meanwhile Joe Biden’s FBI is raiding Trump’s personal residence and seizing phones of Trump’s top advisors.
