Elon Musk polls people about whether Twitter upholds the principle that free speech is critical for democracy: 'The consequences of this poll will be important'

Billionaire business tycoon Elon Musk posted a Twitter poll on Friday asking people whether they think that the social media platform upholds the principle that free speech is vital to a democracy.

"Free speech is essential to a functioning democracy. Do you believe Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle?" he tweeted.

Out of the more than 1.8 million votes that have been cast so far, more than 70% of the responses have been "no."

Musk then followed up the post with a mysterious tweet declaring that, "The consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully."

Twitter has recently taken action against multiple high profile accounts that failed to abide by radical leftist gender ideology, specifically as it relates to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary for Health Admiral Rachel Levine, a biological man who identifies as a woman.

The popular satire website the Babylon Bee had its Twitter account locked for breaching the social media giant's "rules against hateful conduct," according to a screenshot shared by Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon.

Dillon has declared that the company will not delete the post in order to regain access to the account: "We're not deleting anything. Truth is not hate speech. If the cost of telling the truth is the loss of our Twitter account, then so be it," he tweeted

Last year, Musk appeared on an interview with the Babylon Bee.

The account of conservative Charlie Kirk was also recently slapped down by Twitter for a tweet related to Levine. Tucker Carlson, commenting on the offending posts from the Babylon Bee and Kirk, tweeted, "But wait. Both of these tweets are true" — Twitter then took issue with Carlson's tweet.

Last year, Twitter permanently booted President Donald Trump off of the platform while he was still in office.
