Trump physician and GOP Rep. Ronny Jackson 'broke legs off chairs to use as clubs and ripped the base off a hand sanitizer dispenser to wield as a baton' to confront Capitol rioters - before he voted against certifying election results

Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson, who served as both Presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama's White House physician, broke up furniture in an effort to defend the House chamber on January 6.

Jackson and his fellow GOP Reps. Tony Gonzales and Pat Fallon 'broke legs off chairs to use as clubs and ripped the base off a hand sanitizer dispenser stand to wield as a baton,' according to Jeremy Peters' new book, Insurgency

'They picked up whatever furniture that wasn't bolted down - desks, cabinets, chairs - and piled it up in front of the doors,' Peters wrote.

The lawmakers recalled hearing a man yell, 'This is our house!' from outside the chamber.

Another member of the MAGA mob smashed a window, sending shards of glass flying.

Capitol Police officers drew their guns, as the doors started buckling, Peters, a reporter for The New York Times, wrote.

'Jackson took off his necktie,' Peters wrote. 'If the mob did get inside, he told himself, it was best not to give them something to strangle you with.'

Jackson, Fallon and Gonzales had all served in the military.

Jackson's 'mind flashed to a war zone in the Middle East,' Peters said. 'This should not be happening in Washington, D.C., he thought.'

'Gonzales had a similar disturbing thought: Wouldn't this be something? I fight in Iraq and Afghanistan just to be killed in the House of Representatives,' Peters wrote.

Earlier that day, Jackson - who launched a political career after having to pull out of the nomination process when Trump appointed him to head the Veterans Affairs department - attended the then-president's 'stop the steal' rally on the Ellipse.

'We're out here FIGHTING FOR TRUMP and for our election integrity! American Patriots have your BACK Mr. President! We will FIGHT for YOU and we will fight for OUR country!!' Jackson had tweeted that morning.

Even after the horrifying experience, Jackson and Fallon both cast yes votes after seven Republican senators objected to the election results in Pennsylvania, extending the joint session that had been interrupted by the Capitol attack into the early hours of January 7.

They were among the 138 Republican House members who voted in favor of Trump's version of events - that the election had been stolen from him due to widespread voter fraud - of which there's no evidence.
