Joy Behar says she will listen to the 'little voice' in her head telling her to wear a mask even if the CDC eases their guidance

Joy Behar said that she may choose to wear a mask in public indefinitely because it's "not safe" to go maskless.

Behar was responding to a report saying the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was considering easing its guidance on mask-wearing after case counts of the coronavirus nosedived.

Behar said on "The View" Thursday that she would continue wearing masks because the CDC has given contradictory guidance on masks in the past.

"Personally, I listen to the little voice in my head that doesn't really follow a hundred percent what they tell me because they keep changing it," said Behar.

"So like, a very short time ago they were saying put the N95 masks on, make sure it's on, and now they're saying you don't have to wear them anymore. So if I go on the subway, if I go in a bus, if I go into the theater, if I go into, where else would I go? A crowded place, I would wear a mask, and I might do that indefinitely," Behar added.

"Because why do I need the flu or a cold even?" she concluded. "And so I’m listening to myself right now. I mean, I don’t think it’s a hundred percent safe yet.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin added that kids were either not allowed to be vaccinated yet or remained unvaccinated, and she was worried about future effects of the coronavirus that might not be understood already.

Dr. Laura Wright disagreed with the other hosts and cited death statistics to bolster her argument that parents and others need to make their own risk assessment about whether to wear masks.

"We need to weigh risks. Tradeoffs is a basic thing that we teach," said Wright. "We need to be able to be adults about this. Why should you have to make decisions like this? Why has the messaging been so inconsistent?"

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said Wednesday that the organization was reviewing its guidance in light of new statistics.

“We want to give people a break from things like mask-wearing when these metrics are better, and then have the ability to reach for them again should things worsen,” she explained.

Also on Thursday, Dr. Anthony Fauci opined that it would be "risky" to allow children to go maskless at schools given the possibility that cases may rebound or that a new variant may arise.
