'There's a lot of reason to be hopeful in 2020': Biden gets the YEAR wrong during official White House COVID briefing

With a midterm election in 2022 shaping up to be a tough hill to climb for his Democratic Party, President Joe Biden was perhaps recalling fonder times when he mistakenly claimed it was 2020 on Tuesday.

Biden, 79, was speaking from the White House during a briefing on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The oldest president ever elected was saying that a lot of good could happen in the coming year but that people would have to get vaccinated against the virus.

'There's a lot of reason to be hopeful in 2020. But for God's sake, please take advantage of what is available,' the president said. With 2022 just four days old, the president could be forgiven for getting the year wrong - but most people who do the same usually give the year before, and not the one two years prior.

Biden has been prone to gaffes and misspeaking throughout his decades-long political career. He has multiple times referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as 'President Harris'.

However, some polling and Biden's opponents have suggested that gaffes like these are a sign of his decline as he heads into his ninth decade of life.

Biden is America's oldest-ever president and even when running in 2020, former President Trump referred to Biden as 'mentally shot.

Last month, Biden mistakenly referred to Kamala Harris, his vice president, as 'President Harris' — repeating an error he made twice before.

Biden has said he will run for a second term in 2024, when he will be 82 years old.

Biden says he plans to run for a second term in 2024, but many Democrats don't believe it and polls find broad concern about his mental acuity.

Biden would be 86 if he completes a second term.

A recent Politico/Morning Consult poll said that 50 percent of registered voters disagreed with the following statement: 'Joe Biden is in good health.'

That same poll found 48 percent disagreed with the statement: 'Joe Biden is mentally fit.'

A Harvard-Harris poll found that 53 percent of voters have doubts about Biden's fitness for office, while 58 percent said he was too old to be president.
