President Trump Defends Christmas In Newsmax Special [WATCH]

President Trump has been an ardent defender of Christmas and maintaining the Christian underpinnings of the holiday since the very beginning of his presidency.  In 2017, Trump spoke at the Heritage Foundation and pointed out that people don’t say ‘Merry Christmas’ anymore in order to be politically correct.

“You’re gonna be saying Merry Christmas again,” Trump told the audience.

“You go to the stores, and they have the red walls, and they have the snow, and they even have the sleigh and the whole thing.  They don’t have Merry Christmas. They don’t have Merry Christmas. I want them to say, ‘Merry Christmas, everybody.’

A 2016 Public Religion Research Institute survey found, for example, that in response to the question, “Do you think stores and businesses should greet their customers with ‘Happy Holidays’ or ‘Seasons Greetings’ instead of ‘Merry Christmas’ out of respect for people of different faiths, or not?” 67 percent of Republicans said “No” and 66 percent of Democrats said “Yes.”

Newsmax included a preview for their interview with President Trump where he takes to defending the Christian foundation of Christmas once again.

INTERVIEWER: “Mr. President, when you came in to office, America came had went through a long period where people quit saying ‘Merry Christmas’, it was all happy holidays, you deliberately changed that, and openly said ‘Merry Christmas, we’re going to say it again’.  Why was that important to you?”

PRESIDENT TRUMP: “It was part of my campaign, the country had started with this ‘woke’, I guess a little before that.  It was embarrassing for stores to say ‘Merry Christmas’, you’d see these chains, they’d want your money but wouldn’t want to say Merry Christmas”.
