Florida girl, 8, cuts her mouth on BLADE hidden inside piece of Halloween candy

Authorities are investigating a case of tampered Halloween candy after a Florida girl cut her mouth on a razor blade that was inside her chocolate bar.

The girl, 8, had been eating a 100 Grand mini chocolate bar on Friday that she had gotten while she was trick-or-treating in the Panther Trace neighborhood in Riverview.

The girl's mother in the Tampa suburb said that her daughter had cut her mouth on an Exacto blade, a crafting tool, that she later found inside the candy.

The candy bar was also said to be wrapped and sealed before it was opened.

'It is despicable that someone would tamper with a child’s Halloween candy for their own cruel enjoyment,' Sheriff Chad Chronister of the Hillsborough Police Department said.

'As we continue to investigate this incident, we are reminding all parents of the importance of checking over every piece of candy your child received while trick-or-treating before letting them eat it.

'There is no such thing as being too cautious when it comes to the safety of our children.'

The department is continuing to investigate the incident and are advising anyone with more information to come forward.

The scary find was not the only candy tampering incident this Halloween season.

The Fostoria Police Department in Ohio was made aware of two pieces of candy that contained sewing needles at a local trick-or-treating event on October 30.

The department warned parents to check their kid's candy after the discovery was made in the town about 100 miles west of Cleveland and even offered to let the wrapped treats get X-rayed at a local hospital.

'Although we only are aware of 2 pieces of candy being involved, we take this seriously and are appalled that anyone would be so demented as to want to hurt children in our community,' Police Chief Keith Loreno said in a statement.

Another report of candy tampering was found in the Canadian city of Longueuil in Quebec, where a boy found a blade inside a piece of Kinder chocolate.

Local police were called to the home on November 1 after the child had bitten into the blade, though he was unharmed.

The blade was said to have resembled one that would be found inside a small pencil sharpener.
