DEMOCRATIC CRIME WAVE: 45 people shot in Chicago over the weekend

Since Friday evening, 45 people were shot in the city of Chicago.  So far, eight of those shot have been reported dead.  The shootings follow a crime wave in Chicago and Democratic cities across the country.  Shootings are up 220% in Chicago compared to last year, according to the Chicago Sun Times.  The city is on pace to have its worst violent crime wave in 25 years.  The murder rate is set to increase yet again this year following a 30 percent increase in 2020.

Efforts to defund the police continue to intensify despite the nationwide uptick in violent crime.  The city of Minneapolis voted on a measure to defund the police and replace it with a “Department of Public Safety” on Wednesday, the measure was supported by almost 44% of the city’s residents.  Though the movement continues to gain traction, some Democratic Minnesota politicians have admitted it may be a mistake in the face of the national crime wave.  “I think allowing this moniker, ‘Defund the police,’ to ever get out there, was not a good thing,” said Minnesotta Attorney General Keith Ellison (D).

The crime surge in Democrat-led cities has occured in tandem with a crime surge near the border.  The Heritage Foundation notes “As FBI Director Christopher Wray recently made clear, the chaos at the border is causing a crisis that is allowing drug smugglinghuman trafficking, and gang activity to flourish there—and to spread elsewhere, too.”  Despite violent crime surging at the border, the Biden administration has backed payments to illegal immigrants in a DOJ settlement.  The Biden backed settlements come on the heels of a massive surge in illegal immigration, with CBP officials saying that arrests have reached an all-time high.
