Biden Rolls Over For China At Summit “Appeasement and weakness over strength and resolve”

President Biden held a virtual meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Monday where the two discussed points of mutual cooperation between the US and China.  The summit got a mixed reception among US politicians, with many prominent Republicans criticizing Biden for his weakness and his failure to condemn China on key issues such as human rights abuses.

“President Biden had the chance to actually stand up to Beijing’s genocide and human rights abuses, but again, he has chosen appeasement and weakness over strength and resolve,” said Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), according to a statement from his office.

After over three hours of talks at the Monday meeting, the leaders were not able to come to any sort of “breakthrough” agreement on issues of importance.  Issues discussed ranged from the COP26 climate deal, to trade talks, to improving communication between the two countries.

Rep. Bob Wittman (R-VA.) also criticized Biden’s weakness at the summit, saying “This meeting between President Biden and President Xi Jinping was a missed opportunity to reassert the United States’ strength and will on the global stage”.

Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) has been fiercely critical of Biden for his soft stance on China.  He predicted that Biden would fail to stand up to China during his presidency last year in the National Review, writing about Biden’s involvement in lobbying to get China in to the World Trade Organization “Wherever a brake might have been applied — by placing human-rights or labor conditions on most-favored-nation status, for example — Biden voted the measures down and lobbied other senators for Beijing. Unfortunately, China and Biden got their way, and American workers are still suffering from it.”
