Ten racehorses are killed in a fiery crash on the New Jersey Turnpike - including a filly sired by Triple Crown winner American Pharaoh - after their trailer slammed into a median

Ten racehorses have been killed in a fiery crash along the New Jersey Turnpike when the tractor-trailer they traveled in slammed into a concrete median.
The tractor-trailer carrying several racehorses was traveling from Florida to Saratoga Springs, New York, over the weekend when the truck unexpectedly crashed on the turnpike around 3am.
Saratoga Springs is home to the famed Clement Racing Stable, owned by distinguished racehorse trainer Christophe Clement.
'It appears as if it was a tragic, tragic accident. It's a rare situation and everyone is shaken up by it,' West Point Thoroughbreds CEO and President Terry Finley told CNN

Hot Mist won her first race at Tampa Bay Downs on May 16.
Under the Oaks was sired by American Pharaoh, the first racehorse to win a Triple Crown in 2015 since Affirmed took the title in 1978.
The young filly placed sixth in her debut race at Gulfstream Park in Florida.
It's unclear the exact location where the horses were traveling from, but Hot Mist and Under the Oaks both have Payson Park Thoroughbred Training Center in Indiandtown, Florida, listed on the company's website.
West Point Thoroughbred  shared news of Hot Mist and Under the Oaks' deaths on Twitter.
