Miriam Margolyes has divided fans with some VERY controversial comments about Boris Johnson's COVID-19 battle. 
The Harry Potter star admitted that she 'wanted Boris Johnson to die' of coronavirus while he was hospitalised with the deadly bug in a rant during her appearance on Channel 4 comedy chat show The Last Leg, on Friday night. 
The actress, 78, famed for her roles in Call The Midwife and The Age of Innocence, didn't hold back while discussing the prime minister's 'appalling' handling of the pandemic.

Asked how she thinks the government have dealt with the coronavirus pandemic, Miriam said: 'Appallingly, of course, appallingly. It's a disgrace, it's a scandal. It's a public scandal.
'I mean, I had difficulty not wanting Boris Johnson to die. I wanted him to die. Then I thought that will reflect badly on me and I don't want to be the sort of person that wants people to die.'

After admitting to her change of heart, Miriam continued with another savage remark about the prime minister. 
She said: 'So then I wanted him to get better, which he did do, he did get better. But he didn't get better as a human being. And I really would prefer that. So, we're in the s**t, basically, here.'

Taking to Twitter over her comments, viewers were divided. Many were outraged, with one person tweeting: 'Memo to Miriam Margolyes: If your sense of morality is not drastically superior to Myra Hindley's, you probably wanna buck your ideas up a bit.'
'Well I think Miriam Margolyes might of just about got herself cancelled on the last leg there,' added another. 
One infuriated viewer wrote: 'I thought that #MiriamMargolyes was dead. Turns out that it's only her brain.'
Another Twitter-user insisted: 'Miriam Margolyes speaks for a handful of vile, pitiable, sub-human Remainer lefties.
'I despise this sad old hater, she doesn't share true British values, despite what her passport says. I hope that Karma gets each and every one of them, she is already dead to me.'

Others very much supported the actress' controversial comments, with one viewer tweeting: 'People acting like @BorisJohnson is some tubby blonde Jesus.

'People are more outraged over a very honest, human response from Miriam Margolyes instead of Boris Johnson's inhumane response and gross negligence when it came to responding to Covid19 and preventing thousands of deaths,' wrote another. 
Someone else tweeted: 'Miriam Margolyes saying she wanted Boris to die Live on TV and then very quickly ejected off the show...' followed by laughing faces.
Alongside a GIF of Tom Hanks looking confused, one person wrote: 'Me considering the fact people are getting their knickers in a twist about Miriam Margolyes but not getting equally upset at holding the government accountable for avoidable deaths, including those of NHS workers.' 
One viewer praised the actress, tweeting: 'Miriam Margolyes is and will always be a national treasure. I love her honesty, her REALISM, She is a true vision of a logical thinker. Bless her forever.'
