Sadiq's London: Lesbian Couple Posts Bloody Photo After Four 'Hooligans' Beat Them For Kissing

A lesbian couple was reportedly beaten and robbed after kissing on a London bus late last month.

“As they sat on the top deck they were approached by a group of four males who began to make lewd and homophobic comments to them," a statement from police said, according to CNN. "The women were then attacked and punched several times before the males ran off the bus. A phone and bag were stolen during the assault. Both women were taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries."
Authorities are now asking for witnesses to come forward.
Melania Geymonat, one of the alleged victims, posted a photo of her and her girlfriend bloodied after the attack. In the Facebook post, Geymonat recalled four “hooligans” taunting the couple after they kissed; the men made sexual comments to the women before brutally assaulting them.
“Last Wednesday, I had a date with Chris. We got on the Night Bus, heading for her place in Camden Town, climbed upstairs and took the front seats. We must have kissed or something because these guys came after us. I don’t remember if they were already there or if they got on after us,” recalled Geymonat.
“There were at least four of them. They started behaving like hooligans, demanding that we kissed so they could enjoy watching, calling us ‘lesbians’ and describing sexual positions. I don’t remember the whole episode, but the word ‘scissors’ stuck in my mind,” she continued.
Geymonat noted that the bus was empty aside from the assailants and her girlfriend. She tried to diffuse the confrontation from the men with jokes, but to no avail.
“In an attempt to calm things down, I started making jokes. I thought this might make them go away. Chris even pretended she was sick, but they kept on harassing us, throwing us coins and becoming more enthusiastic about it,” she wrote.
The women were then viciously assaulted, she said.
“The next thing I know is that Chris is in the middle of the bus fighting with them. On an impulse, I went over there only to find her face bleeding and three of them beating her up,” Geymonat wrote. “The next thing I know is I'm being punched. I got dizzy at the sight of my blood and fell back. I don’t remember whether or not I lost consciousness.”
“Suddenly the bus had stopped, the police were there and I was bleeding all over. Our stuff was stolen as well,” she said, noting that she might have a broken nose.
Geymonat then highlighted how violence has “become a common thing.”
“[W]hat upsets me the most is that VIOLENCE HAS BECOME A COMMON THING, that sometimes it’s necessary to see a woman bleeding after having been punched to feel some kind of impact,” wrote the woman. “I’m tired of being taken as a SEXUAL OBJECT, of finding out that these situations are usual, of gay friends who were beaten up JUST BECAUSE. We have to endure verbal harassment AND CHAUVINIST, MISOGYNISTIC AND HOMOPHOBIC VIOLENCE because when you stand up for yourself s*** like this happens.”
London has indeed become increasing violent in recent years. According to a U.K.-based Express, a new report commissioned by GLA Conservatives highlighted a massive crime spike in the city since Mayor Sadiq Khan took office three years ago.
“The report claims knife crime has increased by 52 percent, while residential burglaries are up by 37 percent and robberies by 59 percent over the last three years. Last year there were 135 murders - a 26 percent increase since 2016 and the highest homicide rate in the capital for more than a decade,” Express highlighted.
“Sadiq Khan tries to avoid blame by stating that rising crime is a national problem, but Londoners expect the Mayor of London to do something rather than wring his hands helplessly and point fingers at other people,” GLA Conservative blasted the mayor.
“Knife and violent crime is slowing in the capital,” a spokesperson from Labour responded to the report, according to Express, “but Sadiq is absolutely clear that it remains unacceptably high — across the country — as a direct consequence of the crippling cuts the Government has made to the police and preventative services since 2010.”
On Friday, Khan condemned the attack via Twitter, saying anti-LGBT hate crimes in the city "will not be tolerated."
“This was a disgusting, misogynistic attack. Hate crimes against the LGBT+ community will not be tolerated in London,” the mayor wrote. “The [Metropolitan Police] are investigating and appealing for witnesses. If you have any information - call 101.”
