'Maybe you think terrorism is funny, I do not': Meghan McCain scolds Whoopi Goldberg on The View as co-hosts spar over Bernie Sanders saying he supports giving Boston Marathon bomber the right to vote

Whoopi Goldberg and Meghan McCain got into a shouting match on Tuesday’s episode of The View over Senator Bernie Sanders’ support for giving voting rights to the Boston Marathon bomber.
‘Does anyone think a terrorist should have a right to vote?!’ McCain said during the segment discussing the presidential candidate’s comment.
The daughter of the late Senator John McCain was outraged over Sanders’ comments on Monday, saying they were ‘disgraceful’ and that Republicans should ‘turn that into an ad.’
McCain mentioned her brother’s military service.

Whoopi Goldberg (left) and Meghan McCain (right) got into a heated discussion on The View on Tuesday over voting rights for convicted felons
‘I was upset about it because… if Democrats want to drag everybody this far left, this is why people like me are so upset and so disenfranchised with how extreme this is,’ McCain said.
‘It's not hard to say the Boston terrorist was a psycho lunatic who is a threat not only to national security but shouldn't be allowed the right to vote in any election.’
The View co-hosts, including Goldberg, McCain, and Joy Behar, continued going back and forth on the issue.
At one point, McCain spoke of one of her brothers who enlisted in the military.
‘I'm trying to tell you, what Bernie Sanders said is going to be turned into a clip that will be - it upset me this morning,’ McCain said.
‘Abby [Huntsman] and I - Abby and I didn’t have brothers that served multiple times, and I didn’t watch my brother deployed when he was 19 to fight this crap to have them come here and have the right to vote!’
Goldberg then said: ‘Now, wait, hold on. Let’s be realistic here...The discussion here was if he got out. That was the discussion.’
Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont (seen on Tuesday in Cambridge, Massachusetts) said on Monday that he supports granting voting rights to incarcerated felons, including those convicted of serious crimes

‘Then I’m against it,’ McCain said.
McCain said she ‘would appreciate it if Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris said there are true monsters in this world.’
She then accused Goldberg of laughing about terrorism.
‘Maybe you think terrorism is funny, I do not,’ McCain said.

Goldberg, who appeared to be laughing because she was unable to interrupt the segment for a commercial break,’ shot back at her co-host.
‘Don’t do that, Meghan,’ Goldberg said.
‘Don’t do that because what - what we are chuckling at, they see me trying to say it, and then Sunny started up again and realized I wasn’t going to get to say “We’ll be right back with more hot topics”.’
Sanders, the senator from Vermont who is running for the Democratic nomination for president, told a CNN town hall on Monday that he would support restoring voting rights to incarcerated felons.
The senator was then asked if criminals convicted of serious crimes, like Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, should also be allowed to vote.
‘If somebody commits a serious crime, sexual assault, murder, they’re going to be punished,’ Sanders said.
‘They may be in jail for 10 years, 20 years, 50 years, their whole lives.

‘That’s what happens when you commit a serious crime.
‘But I think the right to vote is inherent to our democracy.
‘Yes, even for terrible people, because once you start chipping away ... you’re running down a slippery slope.
‘I do believe that even if they are in jail, they’re paying their price to society, but that should not take away their inherent American right to participate in our democracy.’
Cher, the singer, appeared to support McCain, tweeting: ‘Does Bernie Sanders Really Believe Ppl In Prison Who Are Murderers⁉️ Rapists⁉️ Child Molesters⁉️ BOSTON BOMBERS.…STILL DESERVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE⁉️’
She then deleted the tweet.

Harris, the senator from California who is also running for the party nomination, was asked about her position on granting voting rights to incarcerated felons.
During her CNN town hall on Monday, Harris, the former state attorney general in California, appeared open to the idea, saying: ‘I think we should have that conversation.’
But on Tuesday she came out against the idea.
‘Do I think that people who commit murder, people who are terrorists, should be deprived of their rights? Yeah, I do,’ she said during an event in New Hampshire.
‘I'm a prosecutor, I believe that in terms of, there has to be serious consequence for the most extreme types of crimes.’
Vermont, Sanders’ home state, and Maine are the only two states in the Union that allow felons - including those who are incarcerated - to vote.
Tsarnaev, 25, is on death row in a federal penitentiary in Colorado after he was convicted of planting pressure cooker bombs at the Boston Marathon in April 2013.
Three people were killed and 280 were injured in the attack.
Tsarnaev’s brother, Tamerlan, who was also a suspect, was killed in a shootout with police just moments before Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was arrested in Watertown, Massachusetts.
