Dem Congressman Boasts He Braved The Snow To Avoid Trump Tower's Coffee. Twitter Roasts Him.

On Wednesday, a leftist congressman who is a strident opponent of President Trump displayed his astonishing courage in the face of adversity, tweeting that despite the snow in New York, he would refuse to go to nearby Trump Tower for a cup of coffee and instead braved the apocalyptic climate to walk down the street and get his coffee elsewhere.

The tweet from Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) prompted some hilarious responses on social media. Swalwell tweeted: “It’s snowing in #NewYork. I need coffee. The closest cafe is inside Trump Tower. This is me walking to an alternative.”

Before progressing to the ensuing hilarity on Twitter, let’s take a quick look at Swalwell’s brand of leftism and his opposition to the president. Last May, as The Daily Wire noted, Swalwell wrote an op-ed for USA Today in which he argued that the federal "assault weapons ban" should be reinstated, demanded that the United States government institute a mandatory buyback of semi-automatic rifles, and went to the extreme, stating that if Americans were unwilling to hand over their semi-automatic rifles to the government, they should be sought out and prosecuted. He wrote:
Reinstating the federal assault weapons ban that was in effect from 1994 to 2004 would prohibit manufacture and sales, but it would not affect weapons already possessed. This would leave millions of assault weapons in our communities for decades to come.
Instead, we should ban possession of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons, we should buy back such weapons from all who choose to abide by the law, and we should criminally prosecute any who choose to defy it by keeping their weapons. The ban would not apply to law enforcement agencies or shooting clubs.
Swalwell’s got quite a nasty side; after Sen. Susan Collins (D-ME) revealed during the hearings for Brett Kavanaugh that she had received serious threats, Swalwell tweeted, “Boo hoo hoo. You’re a senator who police will protect. A sexual assault victim can’t sleep in her home tonight because of threats. Where are you sleeping? She’s on her own while you and your @SenateGOP colleagues try to rush her through a hearing.”
In December, Swalwell said of the president, “The bigger picture here is that you are now seeing more evidence than ever that Donald Trump was associated with a criminal campaign, a criminal transition, and presides today very likely over a criminal presidency.”
In February 2017, Swalwell had a confrontation with Fox host Tucker Carlson as to whether Swalwell believed abortion was the taking of a human life. The exchange went like this:
Carlson: “Are you really afraid to say, ‘The intentional taking of life is wrong’?
Swalwell: “No, of course not.”
Carlson: “Then why don’t you say it?”
Swalwell: “I’ve prosecuted people for intentionally taking life. What I am saying—”
Carlson: “But you won’t agree with this because you’re afraid of the abortion lobby. Like, ‘Ooh, you’re anti-abortion if you’re against the intentional taking of human life.’ I mean, come on.
Swalwell: “No. I believe a woman has the right to make her own decision about her own health care.”
Carlson: “Do you think it is the taking of a human life, abortion?”
Swalwell: “I think that right now, that viability, before viability a woman should be able to make her own decision. After viability, in the case of her own psychological health, in the case of rape or incest she should also be able to make that decision.”
Carlson: “Okay, but is it the taking of human life?”
Swalwell: “That is a woman’s personal decision.”
Carlson: “You’re not going to answer me.”
Swalwell: “… it’s a woman’s decision.”
After Swalwell stubbornly refused to answer Carlson’s question, Carlson finally concluded, “You’re not going to answer my question now or ever, I suspect, but you should because it’s a basic question, I think.”
Now back to the reaction to Swalwell’s display of heroism on Wednesday:
