Frail face of Syria's agony: Starving baby who weighs just 4lbs wails in pain as he clings to life (8 Pics)

WARNING DISTRESSING CONTENT: The infant was brought to a clinic in the rebel controlled town of Hamouria near Damascus on Saturday as the battle continues to rid Syria of ISIS

Harrowing pictures showing a severely malnourished child wailing in pain as he clings to life in a Syrian hospital have given a grim depiction of life in the country ravaged by war.
The child was pictured being carried by a nurse in a clinic in the rebel-controlled town of Hamouria, in the eastern region of the outskirts of capital Damscus.
Doctors recorded the child's weight as just four pounds and it is not know how old he is.
The tragic images are not the only ones of children whose lives have been devastated by the conflict.

In 2016, Omran Daquneesh captured hearts around the world when he was photographed caked in blood and dust after his home was bombed in Aleppo.
Looking dazed and confused, the chilling image of the five-year-old boy in the back of an ambulance became a haunting reminder of the horrific suffering of children in the conflict.
Around him, rescuers continued to pick through the rubble looking for survivors after the air strike by the Assad regime to the east of the c ity.
It later emerged that the strike in August last year killed Omran's 10-year-old older brother Ali. That was 11 months ago.
A video released earlier this summer showed the youngster reunited with his family and looking happy and healthy.

The footage showed Omran sitting on his father's knee at home in Aleppo as they are interviewed for Lebanese television station Al-Mayadeen.
His father could be heard telling the presenter that he did not hear the plane above their old home before the strike.
He added that he has changed his son's name and hairstyle to evade people trying to harm them.

He also accused Syrian rebels of trying to intimidate the family.

It was unclear whether or not the Daqneesh family had been coerced into appearing in the interview but they have previously declined to speak to the media out of fear of being targetted.
In the seven years of the Syrian war hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and more than half of Syrians are homeless.
The multi-sided conflict has seen different groups control areas of the country, including ISIS which is being pushed out of its stronghold in Raqqa.
