62% of Americans believe Joe Biden hasn't delivered on his promise to get Washington working - with his approval rating as low as 42%, dire new poll shows

A new Monmouth University Poll released Wednesday showed that 62 per cent of Americans believe that President Joe Biden hasn't been able to deliver on his promise to get Washington working.

Thirty-six per cent said Washington itself was Biden's biggest problem - as his two agenda bills have been stuck in Congress for months, with the infrastructure package finally getting voted out of the House on Friday.

Another 29 per cent said Biden's biggest problem is that he's gone too far to the left, aligning himself with the progressives in his party.

The poll found that Biden's approval rating has slipped down to 42 per cent, with his disapproval number ticking up to 50 per cent.

Monmouth's September survey showed Biden's approval and disapproval sitting at 46 per cent.

More popular than the president are his plans.

Support for the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill stands at 65 per cent, down just a few points from previous surveys.

Additionally, 62 per cent of Americans say they support the Build Back Better soft infrastructure bill, which contains provisions such as pre-K, expanded healthcare and other services.

The poll found that 60 per cent of Americans support the climate change provisions included in the bill - which still needs to pass both the House and Senate.

Of course there's a partisan split when it comes to supporting the bills.

Democrats are between 94 and 96 per cent supportive, while independents are 60 to 61 per cent supportive.

But when looking at the GOP, 37 per cent of Republicans support the bipartisan infrastructure bill, 26 per cent support Build Back Better and just 19 per cent applaud the climate change provisions found in the BBB bill.

When all Americans are asked who should be blamed if Biden's BBB fails in Congress, 40 per cent - the biggest amount - say the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

Meanwhile, support among all Americans for Biden's two signature pieces of legislation - the bipartisan infrastructure plan and the Build Back Better social spending bill - remain higher than his approval rating

Another 33 per cent assign blame to the Democrats' moderate wing.

However, when just Democrats are surveyed, liberal Democrats say it's the moderates who are at fault - 66 per cent to 17 per cent.

Moderate Democrats, meanwhile, blame the progressives - 49 per cent to 29 per cent.

'The Democratic Party may have a big tent, but right now it's hosting a wedding between the Hatfields and McCoys. Each side insists on staying on their own turf and blames the other one for not taking to the dance floor,' said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute'

'This seems to be as true at the grass roots level as it is in the U.S. Capitol,' Murray added.

'The irony is that progressives and moderates pretty much agree on the policy objectives in the president's plan. They just don't know how to talk to each other in order to get the win,' the pollster said.
