Apocalyptic scenes over Louisiana freeway as tornadoes lift ATV into the air, whip into power line and send electric blue flash over the heads of drivers on freeway

Dramatic videos showed tornadoes in Louisiana and Texas, with one twister seen striking a powerline moments after touching down on a freeway, while another lifted an ATV into the air.

One Twitter user driving on I-10 and Highway 62 near Lake Charles, Louisiana, shared the jaw-dropping clip around 11.30 am, CDT. Around 1.30 pm, the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch in the state for the areas of Pitkin, Elizabeth and Grant until 4 pm.

Another in Orange, Texas, captured an ATV flying through the air, after it was lifted off the ground by the force of the extreme weather event.

Also in Lake Charles, at least one person was injured when 64 mph winds blew out the windows of a home, as social media photos showed lawns littered with debris.

Throughout Louisiana, 18,710 homes and businesses are without power as of 2.15 pm, according to poweroutage.us. In Cameron County, more than 60 percent of residents have lost electricity.

This morning, more than 90,000 power outages were reported in Texas; now, as of 2.15 pm, 54,868 are still without power.

A line of thunderstorms, which will hit the strongest in Central Texas, will produce 40 mph winds with gusts up to 70 mph, pea-sized hail and frequent lightning. Then, the line will move to Paris, Athens, Mexia and Cameron

The storms are expected to move across Louisiana into Mississippi by this evening, then on to the Florida Panhandle, according to Weather.com senior meteorologist Chris Dolce.

'We’re basically just going to see a line of storms that move eastward,' Dolce said. 'There could be some supercells popping out of it.'

By Thursday, the severe threats will shift to the Southeast, looming over Central Florida and the Carolinas.
