What a brass neck! People reveal the cheekiest requests they've ever received - from a woman whose ex-husband wanted her to redecorate his new house to a friend who asked for a precious ornament (and then stole it)

Social media users have shared some of the cheekiest requests ever made of them - including a woman whose ex-husband asked her to help redecorate his house (despite him having a new girlfriend).

The conversation was started by post on British parenting forum Mumsnet, which asked people if they are ever impressed by the audacity some have when it comes to asking for major favours.

The poster wrote: 'Having read another thread where a woman was asked to go 40 minutes out of their way to drop someone else's child to school, or the poor woman who's been asked to give daily injections to her neighbour because her kids couldn't be bothered has gotten me thinking.

'I don't think I'd have the actual nerve or be brazen enough to make some of the ridiculous requests that people have made, so I'm secretly impressed that there's these group of people who don't even think twice about these off the wall requests!'

The prompted a slew of responses, with posters sharing some of the cheekiest favours people have asked them branding them 'cheeky f*****s' or CF for short.

One revealed that a friend had actually tried to steal an precious family heirloom that she'd had her eye on.

They wrote: 'I had a friend like this . Her motto was if you didn't ask, you didn't get.

She asked for something from my house (ornamental, very nice but also my husband's memento of a sibling who had died in childhood). I of course said no, and why.

'She stole it. Absolutely no shame at all from her when caught out . Slagged me off for "making a fuss". I DO believe the CF threads. These people walk amongst us...'

Some people said they are better at refusing to do unreasonable favours for others, with one even losing a friend over it.

They wrote: 'I worked FT [full time] and a friend who didn't work asked me to walk her dog at lunch time as she wanted to go to London for the day.

'I said it was not possible as a very short lunchtime, a 20 minute walk each way and I needed to eat lunch in that time. She didn't speak to me for two years because I didn't help her. No contact now after 30 years of knowing her.'

Another was stunned when her former partner asked her to help redecorate.

She wrote: 'My ex husband asked me to help move house and decorate his new house. I'm sure his current girlfriend would love to walk in and find me up a ladder. I actually find it hilarious in its brazenness.'

However, some people revealed they had friends and acquaintances so brazen that despite making some shocking requests, they usually get what they want - or would even just do things without asking permission.

One wrote: 'Many years ago, a neighbour with whom I had become quite friendly, would routinely ask me if I was going shopping. I quickly realised that there was no right answer to this, because I would either be asked to get a long list of stuff for her if I was going, or to look after her two sons while she went.

'I didn’t have the use of a car, so I had to walk with a pram or pushchair and carry her shopping as well as my own, but it was preferable to looking after her offspring, who were very hard work.'

Another added: 'I knew someone who would just walk up to blokes at the bar in pubs and ask for a drink. She would literally just walk off once said drink was bought for her. It was kind of funny at first but after a while it just seemed mean and tight.

'She would justify it claiming that the blokes did not have to buy her a drink which is technically true but she was very confident and would target not so assured men and bully them.'

A number of posters revealed that they had somehow got sucked into doing things for other people that they either didn't want to do, or weren't reciprocated

A number of posters said they were, in fact, somewhat in awe of people who have the audacity to make cheeky requests.

One Mumsnetter said: 'I am sometimes impressed with brazen cheek , probably because I am really passive and often dont ask for things that are quite reasonable requests. So I am sort of in admiration at people who ask something that the world and his wife can see is blatantly unreasonable, and get away with it!'

Another added: 'I am always massively in awe of people who have the ovaries to ask. My dad always says to me if I need help just ask - but I don’t, even when I need it because I’m embarrassed to ever raise it! To be so brazen always really surprises me.

'I also know I’m probably ‘door mat’ material to I never say yes the first time to anything that is signalling alarm bells as I’ll struggle to get back out of it.'

However, one savvy poster has a response to unreasonable requests. They wrote: 'I have a practised, exaggerated response to CF requests.

'"Really? Me? You are SO sweet to think of me. Honestly, it's SO kind of you but I’m going to have to say No. I couldn’t manage that. Thank you for asking though".

'It works every time. They just move on to next sucker.'
