Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, has been hospitalized with COVID-19 complications, despite calling it ‘the biggest fraud I’ve ever seen’ last year.

She posted on Instagram a picture from her hospital bed in Funchal, confirming she tested positive on July 17 and had been in isolation.

Her symptoms worsened, she developed pneumonia and went into hospital for treatment, showing in the image that she is on oxygen and attached to a drip.

Katia had famously reacted angrily when her brother, Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo, tested positive for COVID-19 in October 2020.

He remained asymptomatic throughout and continued to train by himself at home during the self-isolation period.

“I believe that, today, thousands of people who have come to believe so much in this pandemic, in the tests and the measures taken will, like me, see it is the biggest fraud I’ve seen since I was born,” she had written in October.

“A phrase that I read today and that I stood up to applaud: ‘Enough fooling the entire world’. Someone, open your eyes, please.”

She has perhaps not entirely changed her tune, as in the Instagram post from her hospital bed, she refers to COVID as “a damned planted virus” and assures that won’t be the thing that gets her.

Katia also notes she has lost weight during this illness, so “it’s not all bad.”
