'He's a fake news humpty dumpty': Sean Hannity hits back at Brian Stelter after the CNN host accused his Fox News rival of 'spouting poison'

Sean Hannity has furiously lashed back at Brian Stelter, branding him a 'fake news humpty dumpty' after the CNN host accused his Fox counterpart of 'spouting poison'.

The bitter feud between the rival network figures showed no sign of abating as Hannity slammed Stelter's ratings and book sales and called him a 'failure'.

Stelter had criticized Hannity on his Reliable Sources segment on Sunday, telling viewers not to trust the Fox host.

He said: 'Don't get numb to this abusive language. Because it is through this language, it is through these insults, through these attacks that Hannity wields power.

'His dark, dire language is fundamentally authoritarian. It softens the ground for a movement like Stop the Steal, Trump's actual ploy to steal the election. It portrays anyone who disagrees as not legitimate, not American.

'The poisonous propaganda that the GOP's activist base is listening to, it's coming from Sean Hannity more than Trump now...nasty little words like these: socialist, stalker, weak, failure, hell-holes.'

Hannity first responded to the outburst on Twitter, posting: 'Haha. This is awesome!!! Poison to Fake News Humpty Dumpty is the truth I reported this week that his highly promoted book "BOMBED" selling less than 1800 copies and he can’t even get 800,000 viewers to watch his socialist propaganda. Ha.'

The Fox News host then continued his tirade against his rival on his Monday show.

After accusing CNN and its president Jeff Zucker of peddling fake news, Hannity said: 'Humpty is not a journalist he's a partisan hack, he does whatever Jeff Zucker tells him to do and despite his title as media correspondent, he's not one.

'Humpty Dumpty focuses almost all of his efforts on stalking this network and yours truly.'

After airing the clip of Stelter's segment on Fox News's 'poison', Hannity continued: 'His definition of poison must mean that I tell the truth, that his book and his show is a failure.

He also slammed the CNN host's book Hoax: Donald Trump, Fox News, and the Dangerous Distortion of Truth which reportedly sold just 1,738 copies in its first week

'Humpty not only claims to be the great arbiter of truth, but now according to him, he's also the arbiter of what are acceptable opinions. Any sentiment or adjective that offends him is poison, like telling the truth about him.'

Hannity then took aim at Stelter's ratings, saying his Reliable Sources show only attracts 700,0000 viewers which would be a 'disaster' for Fox.

Despite the criticism of his show, Hannity assured viewers he would not change, saying: 'Mark my words pro-stalker Humpty will never police my rhetoric, my opinions.'
