100 Percent Fed Up reports- The Flint officer was working a traffic point during Flint’s Champions Parade, an event held in honor of the city’s athletic greats, along with a celebration of the newly declared federal holiday, Juneteenth, when the vehicle’s driver opened fire. The officer returned fire, killing the lone occupant who has not been identified.

“Preliminary investigation indicates the officer, who was working a traffic point for the Juneteenth Celebration Parade, was fired upon by the lone occupant of a vehicle who drove up to him at the traffic point. Upon taking fire, the officer returned fire, striking the suspect,” state police said.

The Flint shooting comes only days after Joe Biden signed legislation, declaring June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day: Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed.

The officer wasn’t injured, and no bystanders were hurt in the shooting, which happened about 2:14 p.m. Saturday on Saginaw Street near Leith Street. The Michigan State Police will be investigating the incident at the request of the Flint Police Department.
