'It's time to turn yourself in': Cops release picture of white Volkswagen driven by road rage killer of six-year-old Aiden Leos as his family demands he come forward

California law enforcement officials have released a photo of the white Volkswagen Golf Sportswagen that was driven by the killers of six-year-old Aiden Leos.

The young boy was fatally shot on his way to kindergarten in Yorba Linda during a horrific road rage incident on the 55 Freeway in Orange last week.

The Volkswagen Golf has non-tinted windows and appears to be a 2018 or 2019 model, California Highway Patrol said in a news release on Thursday. The license plate number is unknown.

Todd Spitzer, the Orange County District Attorney, said during a press conference on Thursday that the Volkswagen Golf was occupied by a female driver and her male passenger, who is alleged to have killed the boy.

'I want the two individuals in that vehicle to understand: this is Orange County, California. This is not Los Angeles or San Francisco,' Spitzer said, according to KTLA.

'I'm running out of patience. It's time to turn yourself in. It's time to understand that the longer this goes on, the less sympathetic I will be to understanding why you did what you did.'

The reward fund for information leading to the shooter's arrest has grown past $310,000 after local officials and businesses chipped in, KTLA reported. Officials said they expect the reward to keep growing.

Alexis Cloonan, the boy's sister, thanked people for their support of a GoFundMe for the grieving mother that itself has raised more than $313,000.

'Aiden gets to have a funeral as beautiful as he is, and we're so, so grateful for that and the outpour of love and support,' Alexis Cloonan said.

GoFundMe has also been set up for the boy's father, Jose Leos, which has raised more than $26,000.

The boy's family have put up $50,000 of their own money to help catch the killer.

The horrific incident happened around 8.10am on Friday, May 21, when he was being taken to his kindergarten class at Calvary Chapel Yorba Linda.

Aiden was in the rear of the family car being driven by his mother when another motorist cut her off while traveling in the car pool lane on State Route 55.

Joanna Cloonan, Aiden's mother, gave the other driver the finger in her rear view mirror, according to Reyes Valdivia who pulled over to help with his wife.

As she moved over to to her right, a gunman, possibly sitting in the passenger seat of the suspect's car, suddenly fired into Aiden's vehicle, striking the boy in the back.

Aiden's mother pulled over to the side of the road and picked him up, cradling him in her arms until an off-duty police office stopped to perform CPR and paramedics arrived on the scene.

'She had blood on her clothes and he started turning blue and that's when the ambulance took him and that was the last time my mom saw him alive,' said Alexis Cloonan, the boy's sister, during a tearful family press conference.

She pleaded: 'Please help us find the people that did this to my little brother. He's only six and he was so sweet. He was a very loving boy so please help us find who did this to him.'

Aiden was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital Orange County. His mother was not injured in the shooting.

Joanna Cloonan struggled to hold back tears as she described his horrific final moments to Good Morning America.

'I was driving on the freeway, and there was a car behind me that cut me off abruptly,' she said.

'I was in the carpool lane with my son, and as I started to merge away from them, I heard a really loud noise, and my son said, 'ow', and I had to pull over, and he got shot.'

She said his final words were: 'Mommy, my tummy hurts.'

'They took my son's life away. He was beautiful, and he was kind, and she was precious, and you killed him for no reason. And I want to find them, and I want there to be justice to be served for my son,' Cloonan said.

She added: 'He sang all the time, and the children at the preschool, everybody loved him. He's a once in a lifetime kid. I miss him, and the person that did this can't get away with it.'

The California Highway Patrol is seeking witnesses who were on the roads between that morning who may have dashcam footage capturing the shooting.
