American reveals the weird things he's noticed since moving to Melbourne - and the Australian slang terms he says 'make no sense'
An American living in Australia has revealed some of the slang terms that confused him after arriving in the country - from the phrase 'reckon' to getting paid 'fortnightly'.
Eddy Overgold, who hosts the Waving the Red Flag podcast, explained some of the iconic Aussie phrases he found most baffling in a video shared on TikTok on Wednesday night.
'They say 'reckon' a lot ... which is like: 'Are y'all cowboys? That's so weird,' the Atlanta, Georgia native said.

'They got all different types of words and there's a few that I'm like: 'OK this is better' but most of them I'm like this is dumb.'
Mr Overgold observed Australians occasionally leave out 'the' when talking about going to a hospital.
'Like you don't go to the hospital you go to hospital ... it makes no sense.'
Some people noted this would be correct as long as you are not referring to a specific building.
The traveler said he also found getting paid fortnightly was new to him, with the term not used in the United States.
'They say fortnight like they're knights ... they got all these old terms [they] don't get paid bi-weekly they get paid fortnightly. No! It's every other week on time,' Mr Overgold joked.
'My bank don't even know what that means. Is that four score and seven years from now? Hold on when do I get my f***ing cheque?'

The TikTok clip has been viewed by more than 26,000 people in less than a day and has received more than 2,500 likes and more than 250 comments.
Some people commented on the clip defending Australia's unique slang, while others said they found the video hilarious.
'Aussies could speak an entire sentence and you guys would have no idea what we're on about,' one person said.
'Yeah, nah, I reckon that reckon is a good word,' another person said.
'As an Aussie I found this funny,' a third said.
'Laughs at you in the metric system,' added a fourth.
'You're about sixteen furlongs from getting me angry,' replied Mr Overgold.
The American citizen has been living in Melbourne throughout 2020 and has been through the city's strict coronavirus lockdown.
He began the podcast in December 2019 with two friends based back in the United States.
The three friends has recently begun Zoom videos of their podcast sessions on YouTube (pictured) where they talk about 'love, sex and race in 2020'
