Seattle police show photographs of their burns and wounds while releasing footage of protesters throwing explosives and wooden planks at officers as 59 cops were injured in Saturday's riot

Seattle police have released bodycam footage revealing how protesters have targeted and injured officers by throwing explosives, rocks and bottles in a riot over the weekend. 

Nearly 60 Seattle police officers were injured in Saturday clashes with anti-police demonstrators and one was hospitalized as a riot was declared in the city. 

The police department released video footage of Saturday's unrest where cops dodged explosives, flying bottles and pieces of wood during a protest in Capitol Hill.

During the Saturday protest a large group of demonstrators tried to destroy the East Precinct police department building, shattering windows, burning holes and damaging walls using explosives. 

The East Precinct station house was the location of the since-dismantled 'Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone' (CHAZ) or the 'Capitol Hill Occupation Protest', which was cleared on July 1.

The police department also shared a series of gruesome photographs showing the injuries officers sustained in scuffles at protests, including burns and abrasions from the explosives

The video features footage from four different police body-cameras from throughout Saturday. 

In three of them small explosives are thrown into groups of police officers, releasing plumes of smoke and burning officers. In the final clip a wooden plank is thrown into a group of cops by demonstrators.

'In all 59 officers were injured throughout the day with one of those being hospitalized. Injuries ranged from abrasions and bruising to burns and a torn meniscus,' the department said.

The police department also shared a series of gruesome photographs showing the injuries officers sustained in the scuffles at protests – from burns to abrasions from the explosives.

One photo shows an officer’s pants burned through by an explosive.

Another shows a bloodied abrasion on the calf of an officer from an explosive. Two other grim photos show burns on an officer’s back and another on an arm.

Detectives with the Arson/Bomb Squad are continuing their investigation into who damaged the East Precinct.

While protests have been raging in Seattle since George Floyd's death, they've calmed with the dissolve of CHAZ. 

Demonstrations and unrest reignited after Trump sent federal troops to intervene in protests in Portland, Oregon. 

On Saturday police declared a riot on Saturday afternoon when protests escalated.  

Officers used pepper spray and flash grenades to disperse a crowd of roughly 2,000 people in the Capitol Hill area marching in the city’s largest Black Lives Matter protest in more than a month, according to the Washington Post.

Democratic Washington Gov. Jay Islee tweeted that President Trump sent federal law enforcement agents to the city in an attempt to egg on a confrontation.

Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee slammed Trump's move to send federal troops to Seattle on standby

'President Trump sent federal officers to Seattle because he is itching for a confrontation. He wants attention. We shouldn’t give him either. Keep it peaceful, keep the attention where it belongs – on building a better, more just Washington for everyone,' Islee tweeted Friday.

Seattle's Mayor Jenny Durkan, a Democrat, also slammed Trump's move to send in troops.

'For a month, the President threatened to send federal forces to "clean up" Seattle. … The President has made good on his threats in Portland, and continues to exacerbate the situation on the ground, endanger communities, and jeopardize the work of local officials,' she said in a statement Wednesday. 

'The President unilaterally deploying paramilitary-type forces into American cities should concern all Americans. His blatant disregard for the constitution — and for the safety and wellbeing of our residents — is textbook despotism.'
