Ilhan Omar Slams US in 4th of July Tweet, Had No Problem Celebrating Corrupt Somalia’s Independence

It’s a tale of two tweets.
Rep. Ilhan Omar, the Minnesota Democrat who’s spent her six months so far in office in a close competition for the title of “most annoying freshman congresswoman,” published two Twitter posts this week marking the independence of her native land and her adopted country.
Guess which one she decided to celebrate?
Omar is closely identified with New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, of course, though the Minnesotan easily stirs up enough controversy on her own account to make her an object of dislike for many conservatives.
(Her flirtations with blatant anti-Semitism don’t help her with even some Democrats.)
A native of Somalia who fled the corruption-ridden, war-torn country on the Horn of Africa with her family at the age of 8, Omar has been a Minnesota resident since 1997, according to her congressional biography.
One might think at least a little gratitude at escaping a country like Somalia might be reflected in the congresswoman’s social media posts on the Fourth of July.
But one would be wrong.
Check out these grim greetings Omar saw fit to send out on Thursday:
Today gives us all a chance to reflect on how far we have come as a country and how much further we have to go to achieve full equality for all people.

We are at a tipping point for progress right now. ✊🏽

Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸

“Happy 4th of July!”
Well, at least she managed an exclamation point on that last line, even if the rest of the post makes the sincerity at least questionable.
Meanwhile, there were no such reservations expressed in a Twitter post from Monday celebrating the Independence Day of the land of Omar’s birth.
July 1 marked 59 years since the unification of Italian Somaliland with British Somaliland in 1960.
Interesting that both what became the United States and part of what is now Somalia both gained their independence from Great Britain, according to the Colonization of Somalia website.
The results have been, let’s say, uneven. But that didn’t put a damper at all on Omar’s celebration apparently.

The first four lines are from Somalia’s former national anthem, according to the Somali news website Hirraan.com.
The tag line means “Somalia forever,” according to The Daily Caller.
No matter what it meant, it didn’t go down well with some social media users.

Have a look at Ilhan Omar's tweet on Somalia's Independence day where she was dancing in the streets vs. her tweet on America's independence day. Looking at the tweets you would think she is a member of Somalia's Congress instead of ours.

Now, no one’s saying Ilhan Omar doesn’t have a right to celebrate her heritage.
But it’s not out of bounds to expect a naturalized American citizen to show at least as much joy and respect for the birthday of the United States of America as for the land of their birth.
The fact that Rep. Ilhan Omar is actually a part of the U.S. government means that it should carry even more weight.
But instead, she preaches doom and despair to her countrymen allegedly on a “tipping point,” while nothing but the unbridled celebration of a country that has spent literally decades as a killing field for people just like her. (The fact that her family fled the place should be a tip-off.)

With that utter lack of propriety, or sense of proportion, Ilhan Omar might win the “most annoying” title after all.
