'God, Guns, and Freedom': Car dealership giving away Bible, shotgun and American flag with vehicle purchases to celebrate July 4

An Alabama car dealership is making headlines for celebrating the Fourth of July with a bang.

Chatom Ford declared last week that every vehicle purchase until July 31 will come with a Bible, a 12-gauge shotgun, and an American flag.

"GOD, GUNS, AND FREEDOM," the dealership wrote on Facebook, adding that the trio of gifts with car purchases is an "opportunity for us to celebrate our independence."

Here's a look at the first buyers to benefit from the offer:

The dealership added that all those eligible to receive the gifts must be 18 or older, have valid identification, are allowed to legally purchase a vehicle, and have passed all checks associated with owning a gun "in state of residency."

But you don't actually get the shotgun at time of purchase

In case anyone thinks that a 12-gauge will be put in your hand once you sign on the dotted line, that's not how this deal works.

Koby Palmer, general sales manager, told WOFL-TV that Chatom Ford doesn't keep guns at the dealership "nor do we give guns directly to our customers. We provide certificates that they present to the licensed firearms dealer. If the customers do not want or can not purchase a gun, they can use the certificate for something else."

Palmer added to Fox News that the dealership partnered with certified firearm dealers in Alabama and Mississippi, and that those dealers conduct the background checks.

'Proud of their country'

Palmer also told the network that the dealership's sales team got the idea for the gifts because they reflect the town's values.

"It's a safe community," Palmer told Fox News. "They're very proud of their country, and almost everybody here likes to hunt."

Anything else?

Speaking of Chatom, atheist activist group the Freedom From Religion Foundation recently claimed a video showed "several football players" being baptized on Alabama public school property — and that the head coach of the football team at Washington County High School in Chatomwas "endorsing this religious exercise."
